When you enter the room, the light switches on, your favorite music plays, or the shutters move up as if by magic: All this can be triggered by a smart motion detector.
Smart home applications use networked motion detection to react automatically to activities in the room. The motion sensor can also be used as an alarm system. In the smart home, it creates an environment that adapts independently to your presence or absence - increasing convenience, energy efficiency, and security within your four walls.
The battery life of smart motion detectors is a decisive factor. After all, nobody wants to be constantly changing batteries. But annoying cables are of course no solution either. The BLU Motion motion detector from Shelly provides wireless reliability and convenience with a battery life of up to five years - the battery is already included in the scope of delivery. A wall sticker for the motion detector is included for uncomplicated and flexible installation.
To prevent the motion detector in the smart home from triggering an action every time a dog or cat touches its detection angle, the sensitivity of the motion detection can be set individually. It can be set to low, medium, or high depending on requirements.
With flexible if-then scenarios, you can easily programyour own sequences and rules for the automationin the Shelly app. This allows you to link the motion detector individually with other components and customize it precisely to your needs. If you want to make full use of Shelly's technical possibilities, you can also use the scripting function to programyour control logic and thus implement even complex processes. This means there are no limits to your creativity in the smart home.
With a detection angle of 120 degrees, the motion detector in the smart home covers a large area. This makes it particularly difficult for thieves to sneak into the house or flat unnoticed. Together with the detection range of nine meters, it is easy to keep an eye on the entrance area or stairwell, for example - and to be informed of unforeseen events directly on your smartphone.
Measuring the ambient brightness is particularly useful for light control. The continuous regulation of the brightness sensor ensures that the Shelly BLU Motion is only activated when necessary. On the one hand, you don't always have to switch off the light when it is still bright enough, as the motion sensor only activates the light control when it gets dark. On the other hand, you automatically save electricity.
The Shelly BLU Motion motion detectors communicate wirelessly via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). No hub is required to use them, but you will need either a BLU Gateway or a second or third-generation Shelly device that acts as a Bluetooth gateway. You then simply integrate the motion sensor via the Shelly Smart Control app. There you can organize your smart devices by room or group, for example. This allows you to link motion detection with lighting control or define other automation. Let'stake a look at some practical examples.
With a motion sensor in combination with smart lighting control, you are no longer in the dark. For example, you can install a motion sensor in your hallway and connect it to a lamp. As soon as you enter the hallway, the system recognizes the movement and automatically switches on the light. Thanks to the large detection range, this happens before you trip over your shoes in front of the wardrobe. The motion detector also recognizes the ambient brightness. This means that the bulb stays off in daylight and switches on automatically when it is dark.
With a smart motion sensor, you won't miss any uninvited guests - not least thanks to the detection angle of 120 degrees. For example, the system protects your home when you are on holiday or at work. If movement is detected while you are away, the detector automatically activates the linked lights, the smart speaker sounds an alarm and you receive a push notification on your smartphone. You can set all these processes quickly and easily in the Shelly app. The reaction time of the motion sensor is less than 100 milliseconds. To prevent your dog or cat from triggering a false alarm, you can customize the sensitivity of the sensors.
Smart control of the roller shutters via the motion detector offers you convenience and security. For example, suppose the integrated lux sensor registers that the ambient brightness falls below a certain level. In that case, it forwards the command to lower the shutters to the corresponding smart home device. In this way, the system not only protects you from prying eyes from your neighbors but also from burglars. If the sensor recognizesthat you have found your way out of bed in the morning, the roller shutters are automatically raised again to welcome you with sunlight.
Quickly taking out the rubbish in the evening or taking the dog for a goodnight walk: Stumbling in the garden in the dark is inevitable. To prevent this from happening, the lighting control in the garden can also be automated using a motion detector. The smart lamps then light the way when we enter the garden. Thanks to customizable sensitivity, they are not disturbed by blowing leaves or scampering squirrels and only switch the light on when we need it. If the motion sensor no longer registers any activity, the light switches off - and we save electricity at the same time.
Sensor is a general term for devices that measure environmental parameters - ambient brightness, temperature, etc. A motion detector, on the other hand, has a sensor for motion detection.
Pets, plants, or passing cars on the road can be responsible for this. With the BLU Motion, you can customize the motion sensor and prevent false alarms.
The term depends heavily on the intensity of use. On average, it is between six months and five years. With up to five years, the BLU Motion is in the top league.
